Konstantin Zankov, Chairman of the Travel Mind United Foundation, was a guest on “Neshto Poveche” (Something More), a programme of Bulgarian National Radio (BNR). The main topics of the conversation were the upcoming tourist season and the shortage of staff. Zankov said this is a major problem not only in Bulgaria but around the world, especially since the COVID-19 pandemic. “We will manage, but businesses need to be more flexible,” he stressed.
Summer tourism is expected to grow by around 10% compared to last year, with the increase most visible among visitors from Romania and Poland. More than 60% of tourist flows to Bulgaria come from the European Union, while Germany is still catching up with its 2019 levels, Zankov added.
“Among the main challenges for Bulgarian tourism is overcoming the short summer season and complementing it with many interesting additional services, such as festivals, spa treatments, cultural events and more.”
The business consultant highlighted the need for greater involvement from state institutions and pointed to the ineffectiveness of the online campaign to attract Bulgarian tourists.
